The Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) is an independent private foundation based in Research Triangle Park. The organization is dedicated to advancing the biomedical sciences by supporting research and other scientific and educational activities. It accomplishes this goal by providing competitive, peer-reviewed grants across a series of program areas.

BWF communicates with grant recipients and potential grant applicants in a number of ways—one of which is direct mail. Tasked with giving their postcard mailers a fresh look, Liaison Design Group decided on a "type and illustration" approach featuring bold colors—a drastic departure from previous years.
